The Forefront After a Full Day on Your Feet: Does the Comfort Actually Hold Up?

The Forefront is built for maximum support and mobility on the jobsite to provide comfort that gives your feet a break while you work. Because of this there can be an expectation that comfort should be immediate, and if it isn't, something's wrong. The reviews below tell the actual story of what happens when you get a pair of Forefronts on your feet. Some really did feel comfortable the moment they laced up. Others had a rough first week, some real hotspots, and even a little doubt before the boots started to settle in and they didn't want to take them off. Both experiences are common so knowing what to expect matters especially if you haven't worn overbuilt and handmade full leather work boots before.

Andrew G. · ★★★★★ · Forefront - Brown

He's owned boots from three different top-tier custom makers and says the Forefront's zero break-in time still caught him off guard.

"The comfort of these things is insane. Zero break-in time. I took them out of the box, laced them, inserted my feet, and have only removed them to sleep and shower since. I keep waiting for a hot spot or some sore to develop. Nothing. There hasn't been a single moment of discomfort."
Nolan M. · ★★★★★ · Custom Forefront

His first pair of custom boots came with real early discomfort: high arch pressure on a try-on, hot spots on day one, before turning a corner.

"My first day wearing them to work my feet definitely had hot spots but nothing that made me want to take them off. Fast forward 2-3 weeks and they have gotten more and more comfortable every day. I look forward to putting them on every morning. Super supportive and comfortable for me to wear all day at work, which I am on my feet 8-10 hours a day! I will definitely be buying more pairs in the near future!"
Mike C. · ★★★★★ · Custom Forefront

Running a steel fabrication shop, he needed safety toes and found the raised internal heel took a couple days to adjust to before it clicked.

"The raised internal heel was hard to get used to but after the first two days it settled and now fits my heel and is very comfortable. The safety toe is really comfortable. The boots are breaking in very nicely. Have had many redwings murder my feet where these boots have had a very mild break in period."
Josh J. · ★★★★★ · Custom Forefront

Wearing his Forefronts over concrete five days a week, he noticed the instep felt higher than his O.T.s for the first couple of weeks.

"After a few weeks the instep was still noticeable, but they are very comfortable now at the end of the day. Impressive build quality and craftsmanship."
William F. · ★★★★★ · Custom Forefront

An elevator constructor on his feet constantly, he noticed the difference within his first week.

"These boots are so comfortable it's hard to describe. The fit is perfect and it's only been one week of wearing them. These boots make it so easy, no more hot spots, 8 hours or more on my feet is no longer painful. I'll be ordering a second pair soon, thank you JK, life changing."
Leithan S. · ★★★★★ · Custom Forefront

Twenty years in the Infantry left him with damaged feet that had never fit well in anything without doubling up on socks.

"These boots are gorgeous, I walk around all day looking at my feet. I spent 20 years in the Infantry, my feet are shot. I have a narrow feet and I have always struggled finding boots that fit, so have always resorted to 2 pairs of socks and thick insoles to try to get a good fit, all the foot pain and problems I have had stopped nearly overnight with my JKs. I couldn’t be happier."
Jim T. · ★★★★★ · Custom Forefront

Already an O.T. owner, he had a comfort baseline to compare the Forefront against.

"I am a person who is more than willing to pay a premium for products that are built to last, and I am confident these boots will do just that. I've worn quality work boots my whole life, but JK's are the first I've had that just continue to get more and more comfortable. I wear them daily."
Lucas M. · ★★★★★ · Forefront - Black

His first JK pair was a custom Fire Inlander; the Forefront gave him a lighter option for concrete without losing the quality he expected.

"The Christy soles are perfect for working on concrete all day. JKs are sturdy, well made, and long lasting but not as rough on your feet right out of the box as others I've worn. No blisters, no hot spots, no complaints. I also appreciate the fact that they are rebuildable. I don't mind shelling out some loot for these knowing I can send them in for repairs/rebuilding for as much as a pair of inferior boots that will break down and stink in a few months. There's no replacement for high quality craftsmanship and materials. I love my JKs."
Dustin · ★★★★★ · Forefront Bison - Shadow

Wearing a 14" upper for medical reasons, he found the bison leather solved a flexibility problem other leathers gave him.

"Very soft sole with minimal break in time. Unreal toughness compared to your average boot store brands. I wear a 14" upper for medical reasons, and with other leathers, it can be hard to bend through the ankle to get down to receptacles. With bison, even with a double toe cap, this is no problem. On the flip side, over head work off of a ladder all day can be very straining on the feet. This is why I keep a pair of double soled heeled boots for ladder work, and these for days walking on concrete floors, panel work, and installing receptacles."
Jarom X. · ★★★★★ · Forefront - Gray

After a rough experience with a different custom bootmaker, he found JK's fit process precise enough to catch a subtle sizing difference between his two feet.

"The boots are perfectly formed, lasted, and sewn. There was one small thing: the area under the right foot cuboid bone and little-toe metatarsal was significantly higher in the right boot. It was very easy to pull up the sock liner and use a small sander to remove some of the insole in the high area. I've now worn the boots even to feed horses in the mud — there have been no leaks at all, even after 250 hours of wear in mud, rain, and snow."

Ten reviews with a couple of different break-in experiences, but a very similar end result for each one. Comfort with the Forefront isn't a coin flip, and while it isn't always instant, after a couple weeks of them on your feet you really start feeling that comfort. Add to that the rebuildable construction and you can keep that same broken in feel for many years.
